AWOMI is delighted at the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon’s selection of Michelle Bachelet as the new Under-Secretary-General (USG) of UN-Women on September 14, 2010. As the head of UN-Women, the former President of Chile will lead renewed efforts at making women's rights central to all development initiatives under the U.N. system.
AWOMI believes the U.N. Secretary-General has chosen a competent and powerful leader for this high level UN position that will envisage and toil for the future of the women’s rights, support women’s rights groups like AWOMI, and serve millions of women worldwide.
Michelle Bachelet is a highly competent and effectual leader of huge honor. She has confirmed her strong dedication to women’s empowerment and the aptitude to nurture gender parity policies in a number of areas, and AWOMI looks forward to working with her and other stakeholders on issues like food sovereignty, climate change, sexual reproductive health and rights.
Congratulations Under-Secretary General Bachelet!
